Eloise was born in Harnett County, moving to Wake County after marriage to Nathan Stewart. She worked for the Wake County Courts early in her career years and retired from the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, serving in the Archives Division. Upon retirement, Eloise received the prestigious award, The Order of the "Long Leaf Pine" from Governor, James Martin, for exemplary service to the State of North Carolina.
Travel, antiquing, her beach home and working in her yard were among some of the many things enjoyed by Eloise. She always looked forward to gathering with friends for their group lunch meet ups. She served as president of her Garden Club and took much pride in her plantings...what a green thumb she had. Eloise enjoyed Sunday School teaching and several hymns which we enjoyed hearing her sing around the house..."The Old Rugged Cross" a favorite of many.
"So I'll cherish the old rugged Cross - Till my trophies, at last, I lay down - I will cling to the old rugged Cross - And exchange it some day for a crown."
Eloise is survived by daughters, Deborah Hagler (Ron), Donna McKinley (Scott, deceased), Denise Hicks; grandchildren, Michael McKinley, Jaclyn Kovalenko, Taylor Craig (Bobby) Casey Goff (Brian), Ava Hicks; step-grandchildren, Sherylan Byrd, Ryan Hagler, Ashley Hagler; great grands, Carson and Olyvia Kovalenko, Kylee Craig; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
