Eric Watson Smith

Eric Smith, 72, passed away peacefully on May 28 in the presence of his wife Theresa Smith, his children, and grandchildren. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather (Fluffy/Grampa). Eric was a skilled carpenter who spent his life building not just homes, but a strong and loving family.

Known for his quiet strength, steady hands, kind heart, and quick wit aka“ the Smith humor”. Eric found joy in his craft, his family, friends and neighbors. Especially in time spent with his wife Theresa and their children and grandchildren.

We will miss so many things: listening to Eric and his brother Marty share stories of their time growing up and working together. Waiting to see what kinds of schemes Eric and his brothers-in-law would concoct to slip away and go fishing. Riding around Raleigh in the truck with Eric and hearing him say “I built that”.

His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the love he gave so selflessly.

He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Theresa Smith; their two children, Erica (Jeff) Long, Curtis (Amanda) Smith, his four grandchildren, Dixie Lynn, Sandra Jean, Tucker Watson, and Wyatt Boone Watson; and his brother, Marty (Marlene) Smith. He is also remembered fondly by nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dorothy Smith, his brother, Curtis, and his sister, Susan.

Words cannot capture how much we will miss Eric, nor express how grateful and proud we are to be able to call Eric a spouse, dad, brother, Fluffy / grampa, uncle or friend.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 2811 Poole Road, Raleigh, North Carolina 27610, with burial to follow in Raleigh Memorial Park.
