Ethel Powell McDonald Medlin

She was born on August 28, 1921 in Duplin County and was a graduate of Wallace High School. She was married to Marion Butler Medlin for 32 years and was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC. She will be lovingly remembered as a truly elegant southern lady. There wasn’t a plant or flower that she touched that didn’t blossom and flourish. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was loved and respected by her family and all who knew her.

She is survived by siblings, Herbert Manning Powell of McKees Rocks, PA and Jane Powell Schoch (Henry) of Macon, GA; children, Katherine Arrington Medlin Palmer, Susan Elizabeth (Betty Sue) Medlin Burke (Johnny), John Powell Medlin (Nancy), and Frank Bryan Medlin; grandchildren, Ashley Arrington Palmer, Sara Medlin Wilson (Chad), Karen Burke Safley (Tim), Lauren Palmer Brady (Shawn), Jennifer Paige Medlin, and Caroline Medlin Schmidt (Jeff); great-grandchildren, Lawson Burke Safley and Ella Grace Brady; and many nieces and nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her parents, Jacob Powell and Katherine Ward Powell; husband, Marion Butler Medlin; son, Marion Butler Medlin, Jr.; brothers, David Ward Powell and James Alvin Powell.

The funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 11:00AM, at Forest Hills Baptist Church; officiated by The Reverend Bruce M. Powell, her nephew. Burial will be at Raleigh Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, August 13, from 6:00-8:00PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC.
