Ethel Guy Powers

Ethel Guy Powers, 93, died June 20, 2013, at her home after a long period of declining health. She was born in Duplin County on April 17, 1920, the daughter of the late Enoch Gideon and Bessie Carter Guy. She moved from Wilmington, NC to Raleigh in 1939 after she married Joseph Newton Powers, the love of her life that she lost in 1988, after 49 years of marriage.

Ethel is survived by her only child, Jo Powers Baragona and her husband Paul. She had two grandchildren, Michelle Renee Prince and William Joseph Baragona. Ethel was fortunate to have five great grandchildren; Zachary, Taylor, Gabriel, Tucker, and Casey.

As a young woman, her group activities changed the lives of many Raleigh women. For that she will be fondly remembered. She was the light for many to follow.

Ethel retired from a career in sales, in which she was truly outstanding.

A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 24, 2013 at 2:00PM at Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00PM at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave. Raleigh, NC 27612.
