Eugene Welborn Kennedy

Gene was raised in Hillsborough and graduated from Orange Co. High School. He fulfilled his dream of graduating from NC State University and becoming a civil engineer. He worked for the City of Raleigh Central Engineering Department for over 34 years, where he retired as a chief engineer of road construction. Gene loved going to the beach, watching sports, spending time serving his church, but above all he loved his family and especially spoiling his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marilyn; his dear daughters- Anissa Harry and her husband Craig of Wake Forest, and Fran Seaman and her husband Craig of Clayton; his grandchildren- Corinne and Ava Harry, and soon to be arriving in April, baby boy Seaman. He will also be missed by his sister Sandra Mundy and her husband Darrell of Tennessee; his uncles, Earl Walker and his wife Becky of Hillsborough, and Everett Kennedy and his wife Eva of Hillsborough, and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, PFC Glenn Welborne Kennedy and Mildred Walker Kennedy.

The family will receive friends on Friday January 14, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh NC. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday January 15, at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, 4415 Pleasant Grove Church Road, Raleigh NC 27613. Officiating will be Rev. Jay Minnick. Burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
