Eunice Idell Holmes

Idell, who preferred to be called “Dell”, was a homemaker are loving wife and mother. She was also a fantastic cook, especially her fried chicken. Her family always looked forward to going to her house for delicious food.

Dell was a devout Christian and was a member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church for 69 years. Her bright smile and positive attitude brought joy to all who knew her. She always strove to find the good in people instead of looking at the negative. She will be sorely missed by all her friends.

She was preceded in death by two husbands. She married Dalma Hawkins in 1947 and they were together for 42 years. Dalma passed away in 1989. She then married Sterling “Doc” Holmes in 1990 and they were married for 25 years, until his death in 2014.

She is survived by a daughter, Pam Casey, of Clayton; and a son, Dwight Hawkins, of Raleigh; three grandchildren; David Casey of Denver, Trish Hawkins of Wilson and Jessica Blacher and her husband, Ryan, of Wilmington. In addition, she has three great grandchildren; London, Hudson and Liza Blacher.

The funeral service will be held at Hayes Barton Baptist Church on Thursday, March 9th at 2:00 PM. The family will receive following the service.
