Evelyn Edith Pittman Bridges

Evelyn Edith Pittman Bridges, 91, of Hamlet and formerly of Raleigh went home on March 15 to be with her Heavenly Father and Jesus, her Lord and Savior. She spent many hours studying about Heaven and how glorious it would be –so today she is happy!

She walked this earth as an angel and now she is one in Heaven.

The one good thing about her Alzheimer’s is she never knew it took her Bridgie (husband of 63 years Robert Henry Bridges) in 2010. Also preceding in death was her parents John Melson and Hattie Evelyn Pittman; her very loving brother John Melson Pittman, Jr; and her precious sister Patricia Pittman Matthews.

Her love for God always came first-reading and studying the Bible, praying over everything and teaching her family how to live. No matter where she moved, Evelyn was always involved in the church-teaching Sunday School, circle meetings, Women of the Church, Bible School and this showed in how she lived her life everyday-being so kind, gentle, thoughtful, and compassionate. Her unselfishness was beyond human understanding.

Next to God was her family-parents, siblings, husband, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews-but especially her children who came before her no matter what: Debbie Canfield, of Hamlet, Diane Weaver-Driggers and husband Griffin who has been like a son to her, of McColl, SC, Rob Bridges of Charlotte, grandson Kyle Weaver of Kinston, NC and her caring brother, Ronny Pittman, of Raleigh.

She loved music from praise to Tom Jones.

Our family would like to say a special thank you to Scotland County Hospice especially Cheryl, Charlotte and Tasha. As well as two very special, round the clock caregivers, Janet Barrentine and Linda Jackson pulling extra duty and hanging in there with us until the end-all of who were so loving, caring and gentle-treating momma like family and for being so supportive of us. They were our angels.

A celebration of Momma’s life will be held at Western Blvd Presbyterian Church, Kaplan Drive in Raleigh Thursday March 19, 2015 at 10:00 am. Officiating will be momma’s loyal and loving brother-in-law Colonel Joseph C. Matthews. The family will receive friends and family 30 minutes prior to the service.
