Frances Scarboro Smith, 94, of Raleigh passed away on Saturday,October 19 in Raleigh. The daughter of the late Fred and Fannie Scarboro of Farmville, NC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ransom W. Smith, Jr.; their infant daughter, Thelma Kay Smith; sister, Phyllis Strickland, and dear friends of 75 years, Thelma Blanton of San Antonio, TX, and Katharine Crowder of Raleigh.
She is survived by two sons, Ransom W. Smith III, and wife, Maxine, grandson, Brandon; and James Walter Smith and wife, Star, and grandchildren, Joshua and Jessica.
Frances worked for many years in retail in Raleigh, first at Ivey Taylor's downtown, and then at Katharine Crowder's Intimate Shop in Cameron Village.
A private family service will be held at a later date when Frances returns to Topsail Island, NC, where she spent many summers with her family. She loved the salt air, sun on her face and gentle ocean breezes.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Disabled American Veterans.
