

The youngest child of George and Helen Van Buskirk, Louise was born on July 23, 1925 on her family’s farm in central Illinois. She attended a one-room school house for grades one through eight and graduated from Oakwood High School in Fithian, Illinois in 1943. Louise was the first in her family to attend college and graduated from the University of Illinois in Champaign, Illinois in 1948. Throughout her college years and for several years after graduation she worked at the University of Illinois Library. In 1951 she married Richard (Rich) Milroy and soon after moved to the western suburbs of Chicago where she worked in the library at Argonne National Laboratory, National Atomic Energy Commission. Louise stopped working outside the home when she and Rich started their family. During Rich’s long career with IBM, there were many opportunities for the family to move between the Midwest and East Coast. In 1969 the family’s final move was to Raleigh where they settled in Brookhaven.
Louise is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard (Rich) Milroy, and brother Lloyd Van Buskirk. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Beth) Cada and husband Ken of Downers Grove, Illinois and daughter Margaret (Meg) Milroy of Alexandria, Virginia. Grandchildren include Amy (Cada) Anda and her husband Nathan of Arlington, Virginia and Paul Cada, his wife Tristan, and great-granddaughter Lilly Louise Cada of Gypsum, Colorado. She is also survived by nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Louise was very involved in the community and a friend to many. She was an active member of The Woman’s Club of Raleigh and former member of the Questers and Brookhaven Garden Club. She was also a dedicated volunteer with the North Carolina Red Cross, Raleigh Arts Council, and numerous other organizations. Louise was a longtime member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Louise will be missed by family and friends, but has finally joined her beloved Rich in heaven.
A memorial service will be conducted by Springmoor Chaplin Rev. Phyllis Mayo in the Springmoor Auditorium on Saturday, June 11th at 11:00 AM. The family will greet friends and guests following the service, and requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to: Springmoor Endowment Fund, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh NC 27615 or White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Rd, Raleigh NC 27608.
