Born in Chicago, IL, on December 16th, 1950, George spent his childhood years in Lincoln Square and Morton Grove. George met Lee Ann in Florida, and the couple married in Bartow. They settled in Glenview, where they raised their family before recently relocating to Raleigh to spend more time with their children and grandchildren.
His immediate and extended family were very important to him. He was devoted to his wife, two children, and six grandchildren. He nurtured and appreciated his many enduring friendships. Throughout his life, he took every opportunity to support, mentor, and counsel the many people he loved.
George had a love of knowledge, and he was always learning and problem-solving. This gift was expressed in his business ventures, in service of friends and loved ones. George's authentic desire to improve the lives of everyone he touched was expressed in how he lived his life. He was particularly proud of one product of that passion, his son Zachary's company Teamworks. Being alongside his son and son-in-law James and sharing in their success brought him immense joy.
George strongly believed in striving for more in life. He became an Eagle Scout as a boy and worked as a CPA after earning an accounting degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After attending DePaul Law School in Chicago, George established his own law firm, eventually becoming Maurides Foley Tabangay & Turner LLC.
In his early years, George spent many summers with his family, camping in Wisconsin. He would continue to have an adventurous spirit for the rest of his life. George loved traveling, biking along Chicago's North Shore and in France. He also climbed two of the seven summits - Elbrus and Kilimanjaro - as well as several high peaks in the United States. He was always aiming further and higher. Later in life, he enjoyed family vacations to northern Wisconsin and spending afternoons at the pool with his many grandchildren.
George's other great love was sports, and he especially enjoyed attending collegiate sporting events. He was a dedicated Duke University fan, as well as any team one of his children or grandchildren was a member of.
George was preceded in death by his parents Demetrios "Jim" Maurides and Jennie Maurides (nee Demos).
George is survived by his loving wife, Lee Ann Maurides (nee Stidham), children Amanda Coffos(James) and Zachary Maurides (Melissa),grandchildren Evelyn, George Macks, Charlotte and Fordham Coffos, and Caroline & George Maurides, and siblings Ellani (Steve Bastien), Pamela (Liam Antrim) and Demetrios (Aspasia Dimizas).
