Grace Holt Buchanan

She was born on April 29, 1920, in Wake County, the daughter of Marcus and Hilda Holt. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Eugene Buchanan, and her sister Helen Holt Davis.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister Eloise Holt Galloway of Shreveport, Louisiana, her brothers and sisters- in- law (Frank and Dot Holt, Lonnie and Ramona Holt, Larry and Betty Holt) all of Raleigh, NC, the families of her brothers and sisters (who were very dear to her), her daughter Judith Buchanan Harris and son- in- law Ray Harris, her grandsons Robert and Glen Harris, their wives (Susie and Natasha Harris), her great grandchildren (Hannah Harris, Thomas Harris, Trey Harris, and Dylan Harris), and her friends in the Joy Sunday School Class at Trinity Baptist Church in Raleigh where she was a member for 57 years.

The closeness of her large Holt family was a source of much happiness and support for her. Working for many years as receptionist for Durham Life Insurance Company, Grace earned the affectionate nickname of “Amazing Grace”. Bridge, reading, and cooking pound cakes for others were her hobbies. All who knew her will remember her special devotion to her husband of 43 years, Gene Buchanan, and to her daughter Judy.

A memorial service will be held at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, in Raleigh, on Sunday, April 26, at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends will gather before the service at for a visitation from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service at Raleigh Memorial Park.
