Gracie D. Walker

On April 4, 2010, Gracie DeBord Walker departed from this world after a courageous battle with cancer. Gracie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born November 19, 1934 in Saltville, Virginia, and went on to earn a degree in education at Radford College. While at Radford she met the love of her life, Robert, and they were married in November 1958. For over 50 years they were constantly by each other’s side. She lived in Raleigh for 46 years and spent many years working in local schools. She was a long time member of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church and passed her strong faith on to her family, church and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert of Raleigh, son Scott and his wife Mary, daughter Kimberly and her adored grandchildren James and Corinne all of Cary. She will also be missed by her sisters Virginia Smith of Columbia, SC and Sue Lawrence of Roanoke, VA. She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Mae Call DeBord and brothers Preston, Ed and Ralph DeBord. The family rejoices in knowing Gracie is now comfortable and at peace in heaven with Christ.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday April 7, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh. The funeral service will be held on Thursday April 8, at 2:00 pm, Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, 4706 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh. Interment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
