

A visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. A burial will follow later in Spring Hope, N.C.
Mr. Farmer earned his undergraduate degree in 1944 and his master’s degree in 1947 from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He worked as a planning engineer with the N.C. Department of Transportation, retiring in 1986 after 40 years of service.
He was a long-time member of the Everett Miller Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church in Raleigh. An avid Tar Heel, he also was a member of the Raleigh Sports Club. He greatly enjoyed the fellowship of these two groups.
A true Southern gentleman, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and most recently, great-grandfather. He and his loving wife, Mary Helen, were high school sweethearts and had been married 69 years.
Mr. Farmer is survived by his wife, Mary Helen; daughter Jane Paige and husband William of Cary; three grandchildren, Beth Kennedy and husband Taylor of Pittsboro; Laura Paige of Wilmington, and Bill Paige of Raleigh, and one great-grandson, Carson Kennedy; and one brother, Jerry Farmer of Rutherfordton, NC.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brighton Gardens of Raleigh and Hospice of Wake County for their loving care of Mr. Farmer.
