

Homer graduated from Broughton High School and was retired from The A & P Tea Company for many years. He then later worked for Harris Teeter in Cameron Village. During his more youthful days, his passion was bowling, both Duck Pins and Ten Pins and was Honorary Duck Pin Bowler of US in 1959. This award was given by The National Duck Pin Association, Washington DC. He was a dedicated friend and avid sports fan, who enjoyed his weekly get together for cards, eating out and just enjoyed time with his family.
He is lovingly remembered by Betty Bell, his loving soul mate and companion for over 30 years. Homer is also survived by Son, Donald of Raleigh, Daughter, Becky Coontz and husband Paul of Clayton, Brother Ernest (Goochie) and wife Peggy of Raleigh. Grandchildren: Nicki Upchurch, Chazz Upchurch, Blake Sinclair, and Tiffany & Adam Monarch and the other love of his life, great granddaughter Skylar Elaine and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the mother of his children and lifelong friend Betsy Blake.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday, March 8, 2013 at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s St. Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 9, 2013 in the Wynne Center at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s St., Raleigh, NC.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
