Jack Padget was born on January 10, 1950, in San Jose, California, to Jack and Jeanne Padget. He was the younger brother of Joan Michele Parce, who resides in Tucson, Arizona, with her husband Don Parce. Jack graduated from Salinas High School in 1968. Following high school, Jack lived and had adventures in a number of places, including Hawaii, San Diego, Colorado, and Wyoming. In Hawaii, where he moved shortly after high school, he lived and worked on the beach, which included an eventful night with Jim Morrison, the Doors’ lead singer.
After Hawaii, he lived briefly with his sister and her husband, Don Parce, in San Diego. It was at this time that he spent time with his niece, Lisa Parce. Following his time in San Diego, he travelled and worked construction in Colorado and Wyoming.
In 1979, he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina, where he once again lived with Joan, Don, and Lisa. At that time, a mutual friend introduced him to Mary Alice Tetro. Despite a disastrous first date where they went to the movies and Jack fell asleep, they continued to see each other. Despite coming from very different life experiences, it became clear they shared very similar life values. Through the next 45 years this life was also shared with Tugboat and Scooter, two solid grey cats; Fuzzy, a small Maine Coon cat; and Bud, their Tuxedo cat.
Jack and Mary married on August 4, 1984, in a small ceremony at the Rose Garden in Raleigh, North Carolina. On October 3, 1985, Mary and Jack welcomed their only child, Zachary Alexander Padget.
While living in Raleigh, Jack worked in a variety of jobs: heavy equipment operator, construction worker, and plywood salesman, the longest with Diamond Hill Plywood.
Jack was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a steadfast friend to those with whom he shared his life. He had a curious mind, an astute sense of the politics of the day, a deep concern for world life events, and a quiet sense of humor. As a musician he loved listening to contemporary guitar music and playing the guitar, harmonica, and piano. He was a competitive card player with his mother, sister, son and a few of our family’s neighbors, but Jack’s favorite place to be was on the golf course with his son, Zach. This family tradition is being continued by Zach with his sons. Zach and Jack spent many days together on the golf course, which included yearly trips down to Southern Pines and Pinehurst. Zach was also his constant support for all California teams, especially the San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary; his son, Zach, and his wife, Alison Coppock; his grandchildren Jack Padget and Brooks Padget; his sister, Joan Parce, and her husband, Don Parce; his niece, Lisa Parce, and her son, Daniel Rowland.
After dealing with a number of complex health issues over the last few years, Jack left this world surrounded by family and friends on September 22, 2025. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A very special thanks to Hospice Transitions Life Care for their genuine care of Jack and their support of his family.
