Jack Paul Pizzolato

Jack P. Pizzolato, Jr., 66, Raleigh, NC, beloved husband, father, and servant of God, died on October 14, 2022. Jack is survived by his mother, Carol Joan Pizzolato of Raleigh, his devoted and loving wife of 37 years, Evelyn Feder Pizzolato of Raleigh, daughters Sarah Pizzolato and Susan Pizzolato Norris of Durham, and son-in-law Andrew Norris of Durham. He was predeceased by his father, Jack P. Pizzolato, Sr. of Raleigh and sisters, Susan and Dana Pizzolato. Jack also leaves behind grieving family members, friends, and colleagues. Jack was born on July 27, 1956 in Orange, NJ and grew up there. He earned degrees from Notre Dame University, The University of Florida, and Pace University. At the time of his death, Jack was enrolled at Concordia University in Irvine, CA where he was pursuing a degree in Theological Studies. Jack had a distinguished 39-year career at IBM with roles in management and software development. Jack started at IBM in 1981 in Boca Raton, FL and stayed with IBM until his retirement in July 2020. He moved from Boca Raton to Raleigh in 1988 when IBM transferred much of its business to Research Triangle Park. Jack was one of the original members that designed and created IBM's first website for the software developer audience, developerWorks. Jack retired from IBM as a Senior Software Engineer. Jack was a member of Hope Lutheran Church of Wake Forest and served in many leadership roles within the Lutheran church over the years. He was deeply religious and committed to his faith, and he was a lifelong student of theology. Jack was an amazing husband and father who cared deeply for his wife and daughters. He was funny, generous, kind, and brave, and he loved helping and teaching people. Jack was a writer, bibliophile, traveler, and family man. He loved a good mystery, a strong cup of tea, and spending time with his “granddogs”, Arlo, Atticus, and Phineas. Jack and Evelyn enjoyed many trips together, especially cruising around the Caribbean. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to camp, hike, and fish. Fly fishing for trout in the mountain streams of North Carolina and Tennessee and taking out his Bass Tracker on Falls Lake were some of Jack's favorite pastimes. Jack earned several humorous nicknames from his family and fishing buddies, including "One Last Cast Pizzolato." Friends and family can recall several occasions when Jack continued fishing past dark or in bad weather. "One more cast" was his motto. The Pizzolato family appreciates the wonderful care provided over the past few months by the doctors and nurses at Duke Hospital, Duke Cancer Center, and Hillcrest in Durham. They are very grateful to their friends and family for their devotion and assistance. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Wake Forest on Sunday, October 30th at 2:00pm.
