Jackie Carlton DeBerry passed away on December 24, 2025, at the age of 85 at Raleigh Rehabilitation Center. Jackie was born and raised in Raleigh. He was employed with the City of Raleigh, in the Public Utilities Department for 30 years, retiring in 1991. After retiring, Jackie worked at CarQuest for 13 years, retiring for a second time in 2008. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved being outdoors, whether it be at the coast or in the mountains. Jackie and Lorena traveled extensively, having visited all 50 states. As a child, Jackie played Little League Baseball, rekindling those friendships after retirement. He loved his family especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and granddogs. He was very active with all of his grandchildren's activities.
Jackie is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorena C. DeBerry; daughters, Gail Campbell, and her husband, Woody, of Angier, NC, Tina Smith, and husband Mark, of Clayton, NC; grandchildren, Timothy Campbell, Zac Campbell, and his wife, Stephanie, Jessica Smith, Alex Smith, and his wife, Shannon, and Tiffany Campbell; great grandchildren, Gloria Campbell, Easton Smith, Evelyn Campbell, Grayson Smith, Rachel Campbell, as well as Josiah Campbell, due in March 2026; siblings, Delbert DeBerry, and his wife, Patty, of Wake Forest, NC; Lillie Anderson, and her husband Dave, of Tarboro, NC; and Ricky DeBerry of Clayton, NC. Jackie is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to his parents, the late Helen and William Earl DeBerry, Jackie was preceded in death by his brothers, Don DeBerry and Jimmy DeBerry.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at 2:00pm in the Mausoleum Chapel of Raleigh Memorial Park, with burial following. The family will receive visitors prior to the service, beginning at 12:30pm. Reverend Zac Campbell will officiate.
