James Franklin Ellis

James F. Ellis passed away unexpectedly at his home in Raleigh on Friday, October 29th. He is survived by four daughters; Cynthia Jordan and her husband Will, Laura Frederickson and her husband Mark, Sarah Creech and her husband Terry, and Amy Crews and her husband Matt; nine grandchildren, and his brother Larry Ellis and sister-in-law Helen who reside in Sarasota, Florida.

Jim was born January 5, 1934, grew up in Raleigh, and graduated from Needham-Broughton High School in 1952. He attended North Carolina State University where he received a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree in 1959. His professional career was in the field of land planning and had his own firm in Atlanta, Georgia. Over the years, he designed many outstanding subdivision projects throughout the southeast.

Upon retiring, he returned to Raleigh in 1998 and became a serious artist. Some of his paintings will be on display at his memorial service scheduled for 3:00 PM, November 12th, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home located at 300 St. Mary’s Street in Raleigh.
