He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School, Raleigh in 1960. Elliott served honorably in the US Navy from 1960 to 1962. He attended Chowan College, Murfreesboro, NC and Hardbarger’s Business School, Raleigh, NC. He was employed by Carolina Trailways for most of his career.
As a Mason, he was raised in Hiram #40 on July 9, 1963 and elected Grand Master for 1998; joined Raleigh #500 in 2004 and elected Grand Master in 2007; he joined James B. Green #735 in 1965 and was a steward from 1976 to 1977. He joined State College #770 in 2015. Elliott joined the Sudan Temple in 1966. Other memberships include the Amran Shriners and service in the Legion of Honor. He was also a member of the Scottish and York Rites, the Knight Masons, The Allied Masonic Degrees, The York Rite College and The Order of the Amaranth.
Elliott was predeceased by an older sister, Florence Swindell Evans Mitchell. He is survived by a brother, Charles A. Swindell (Ronda) and a sister, Camille S. Arrington (Tom). Other surviving relatives include nephews, David S. Evans, Jr, Clarke Swindell (Apple), a niece, Lauren Swindell (Garrison Ries) and great nephews David S. Evans, lll (Joanna), Andrew D. Evans (Molly Hilburn-Holt) and a great-great niece, Amelia Evans and great-great nephew, Owen Evans and other Clarke cousins in Hyde County, NC.
The family wishes to thank the Staff of Wake Dialysis Center for their compassionate care during the past few years and the Doctors and Nurses of the Rex 5th Floor Oncology Service for their exceptional and loving care. The family would also like to thank the staff at Mayview at the Oaks and the Transitions Hospice Team for their care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday January 16, 2019 at All Saints Anglican Church, 908 DeBoy Street, Raleigh. The family will receive friends at the church from 10-11AM prior to the service. A graveside service with Masonic Rites will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 South
Wilmington Street, Raleigh.
