

She was born on March 29, 1950 in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of Captain Robert Michael Brown, USN (deceased) and Jeannette Dora (Alfano) Brown (deceased). She was the oldest of four children. Being a Navy family Janet moved several times. She attended Carmel High School in Mundelein, Illinois and attended Averett University in Danville, VA.
Janet was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, aunt and friend.
Janet had impeccable taste and a tenacious work ethic that made her one of the top buyers for Miller & Rhoads and Thalhiemers department stores. She also worked as an Account executive for Guess Watches, Tommy Hilfiger and Jockey. Janet was named the top Account Executive Nationally for Jockey several times over the years and retired from Jockey.
Janet traveled the world as a clothing buyer, but enjoyed her vacations closer to home on the Outer Banks of North Carolina with family and dogs.
Janet married Ford “Chris” Abbott on February 19, 1998. They spent many years living in Atlanta, Georgia. Then her job took them to Charlotte, NC.
Janet enjoyed walking Indy to local outdoor shopping malls to shop and talk to her friends.
Janet was also married to her college sweet heart Ernest “Nip” Franklin May 1969. After graduation in 1971 they moved to Richmond, VA and lived there for 25 years.
Janet is survived by her loving sisters and her beloved dog Indy. Surviving are three sisters, two brother-in-laws and two nephews: Patti Brown Childress (Randy), Richmond, VA; Jackie Brown Weisenberger (Bob), Raleigh, NC; Pam Brown, Washington, D.C.; Shane Weisenberger and Nate Weisenberger, Raleigh, NC.
A celebration of life for Janet will be held at a later date in Richmond VA.
