

Jeanette Hill Collier born July 31, 1922 at her family farm near Stockton, Maryland. Daughter of Delores Brittingham Hill and Joseph Gordon Hill, Jeanette was one of six children who graduated from high school in Stockton, and left home to work as a telephone operator first in Snow Hill, MD then later in Harve de Grace, MD, where she met Technical Sergeant James W. Collier, her husband to be. At the end of the WWII, she accompanied her husband to Richmond, VA where she continued to work for the Bell Telephone Company. She left work in 1952 to raise her only child, James W. Collier Jr. The family moved to Raleigh, NC in 1959 as a result of a transfer of her husband for work. Jeanette and Jim eventually opened the North Hills Hobby Shop in 1963 and owned the business until they retired in 1983. Jeanette went back to work in retail until the late 1980’s. Jeanette retired to enjoy her passion for gardening, sprucing up her home, enjoying her wild animal friends and involvement in her families activities. She was a beloved mother and wife and a friend to all who knew her. She shared her positive attitude and kindness with all and touched the lives of everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers William Hill and Joseph Hill Jr and her sister Daisy Ellen Brown. She is survived by her sisters: Helen Dill of Chestertown, MD and Ida Mariner of Snow Hill, MD, her son, James W. Collier Jr., daughter in law Becky Bell and grandson Robert Samuelson.
There is a celebration of the life of Jeanette Collier at 10:00am Saturday, January 10, 2015 in the Wynne Center at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home located at 300 St Mary’s St, Raleigh, NC 27605 across from Wiley School with a reception at the Collier home following the ceremony.
