A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late David Floyd and Edna Wilson Buffaloe. Jewel graduated from Garner High School, Peace College, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was married to William Sublett Christian and they resided in Durham, Chapel Hill and Raleigh. During her 30 year teaching career, Jewel taught at schools in each of these locations. Her childhood years were spent in the Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, Raleigh, and she later became a member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh.
Survivors include her sister, Joy Buffaloe Parrott and her brother-in-law, Dr. Larry Huitt Parrott of Camden, S.C.; nieces, Carol Christian Hamel (Al) and Amy Parrott Harrigan (Michael) of Raleigh, Holly Parrott Tatum (James) of Tryon, N.C.; nephew, Stephen Lawrence Parrott (Julie-Ann) of Blythewood, S.C.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, and a nephew, David Huitt Parrott.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, April 1st in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
