

John J Hoban Sr. was called by God on April 27th, 2011. He was born May 2nd, 1918 in Chicago to John T. Hoban and Winifred Kelley Hoban. John was preceded in death by his mother, father, two brothers; Eugene Hoban, MD, Joseph Hoban and three sisters; Rita Higgins, Regina Yost and Luella Hoban.
John is survived by his daughter Janis Hoban, son John J. Hoban Jr., daughter-in-law Janet Hennessy Hoban, grandchildren; Emily Hoban, Jon Hoban, Tyler Hoban, great granddaughter Olivia Mclean and his ex-wife and friend of over 70 years, Erma Duchene Hoban.
John is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews .
After the untimely death of his father, John (age 13) took on the responsibility of caring for his mother and four younger siblings. While attending St. Vincent De Paul Academy he worked as a copy-boy for The Chicago Tribune and was part of the clean-up crew at Wrigley Field (earning him a ticket to the World Series Game where Babe Ruth hit his famous Home Run) to support his family. John served in Belgium during World War II in the Army Corp of Engineers. John worked for over twenty years for the Chicago Board of Education and worked many part time jobs to help support his family.
John was a gentle and loving man. All who knew him will miss his brilliant blue eyes, his wit, his great stories and his great love of his family. John loved life and God blessed him with a good life and a family that loved him.
