John Wilbur Newsom

He was born and grew-up on a large family farm on Yates Mill Pond Road, and never really left the "home place." Through the years, he maintained his passion for farming and his tractor, which he used to grow God's garden of corn, vegetables and flowers.

John loved the Lord and the church, his family, especially his grandchildren, and his community of Rhamkatte. He retired from Firestone Tire Company after serving the company for over 30 years.

John was predeceased by his wife Dorothy Christmas Newsom in 2001, his son John Wilbur Newsom Jr., his brothers Truby Lee and Van Newsom, and sister Dorris Wilson.

He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Newsom Briggs and husband Kennon; son Jay Clifford Newsom and wife Terri; grandchildren Karlie, Karoline and Kasey Briggs; Alec and Emily Newsom; and, Kristen Scruggs, Jessica and Zane Newsom; and great-grandchildren Aria and Avery Scruggs and Layn Newsom.

The family will receive from 5-7 pm Monday, September 12, 2016 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home 300 Saint Mary’s St. Raleigh, NC 27605. A funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Macedonia United Methodist Church 2700 Jones Franklin Rd, Cary, NC 27518.

Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
