Joseph William Beach Jr.

Joseph William Beach, Jr., of Raleigh, died Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Hospice Home. He was born May 25, 1929, in Raleigh at the original Rex Hospital, the son of the late Joseph William and Mary Cox Beach.

Joe completed his undergraduate degree in music from Wake Forest, and then completed his master’s degree from UNC in Music Education. He taught high school music for 17 years, before attaining another master’s degree from Westminster Choir College at Princeton University. When returning to Raleigh, he worked for the Employment Security Commission.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Creighton Beach and wife Pat of Durham; nieces, Mary Helen Beach, Kimberly Wren and husband James, and nephew Richard Beach Jr.; grandniece, Jessica Wren; and cousins, C.M. Beach, James Beach, Gordon Cox, and Ruth Williamson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11am at Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, 1801 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC 27605. Family will receive friends on Friday, July 22, 2011 from 7-9 pm at Brown Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh NC 27605.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joe’s memory can be made to Pullen Memorial Baptist Church Choir.
