On Sunday, March 19, 2023, Juanita Ferrell Card passed away at age 95. Juanita was a devoted and loving mother, wife, grandmother, friend, hairdresser, and neighbor, but most of all a faithful servant of God.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Minnie and Percy Ferrell, her husband, AG Card, her granddaughter, Erin Card Brylski, and her siblings, Rueben Ferrell and Alice Perry.
She is survived by her children, Susan and Eddie Matthews, Ronnie and Martha Card and Debbie Brown; her siblings, Bobby Ferrell, Kay Cone and Phyllis Strickland; her grandchildren, Steven and Sharon Matthews, Heather and Ryan Sorrell, Jacob and Lindsay Matthews, Brian Card, Damon and Allie Card, Amanda and Johnathan Raby, Meredith and Tyler Chanas, Kaitlyn and Eric Dodson, Carson and Emily Mahaffee, 12 great grandchildren with 3 more on the way, and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Juanita was born November 20, 1927, to Minnie and Percy Ferrell of Middlesex, NC. She grew up on a farm in rural Nash County until she moved to Raleigh to attend Carolina Beauty School. After graduating, her talent and high skill level secured her position at Troutman’s Beauty School where she was an instructor. Juanita’s hard work and determination provided her a lengthy, successful career with business partner and lifelong friend, Peggy Padgett who was by her side for several decades at Northside Beauty Shop on Bernard Street and then on Fairview Road in Raleigh. In 1964, she married A.G. Card, and they raised their most prized possessions, three children, Susan, Debbie and Ronnie on Claremont Rd. in Raleigh.
Juanita always loved to be outside and active, working in her yard, tending her rose bushes and vegetable plants. She enjoyed walking in the neighborhood or at the mall with special neighbors and friends. Her favorite day of the week was Sunday, because that was the day she got to go to church, worship her Lord and Savior and listen to the word of God. She was a prayer warrior and anyone who knew her felt the presence of those prayers over their life. Because of her life, Godly example, and influence, so many including multiple generations of her family will one day join her in Heaven. Juanita’s zeal and determination to go the distance was so evident in the whole of her life. We know of no other person whose faith and family meant so much.
Special thanks and recognition, from the grandchildren, goes to Ronnie, Martha, Debbie, Susan and Eddie for being dedicated and loving caregivers to Granny Card for 22 months; never leaving her side and ensuring she was never lonely.
A visitation for Juanita will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh, NC 27605. The funeral will start at 12:00 PM. A graveside will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park, 7501 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27612.
