

Leonard Frank Kuwalik, Sr., age 89, of Durham, North Carolina passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021. Leonard was born on May 13, 1932 to Frank and Maryianna Kuwalik in Jersey City, New Jersey. After Leonard graduated from Kearny High School in 1950, he served as a Submariner in the United States Navy.
Following his distinguished service in the United States Navy, Leonard graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1964. He worked for IBM as a Manufacturing Engineer for 25 years with a focus in economic justifications, planning, liaison and project management.
On April 7, 1956, Leonard married Joan Hoffman in Kearny, New Jersey. Leonard and Joan went on to have three children, Leonard Jr., Karen, and John.
In 1987, Leonard retired from IBM. He spent his retirement years enjoying a variety of activities and hobbies, traveling the world, and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; his three children, Leonard Jr. (Heather) of The Villages, FL, Karen (Bryan) of Charlotte, NC, and John (Matthew) of Raleigh, NC; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Katie and Emma, and a brother, Raymond Kuwalik of Longs, SC.
Leonard is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Maryianna, as well as several brothers and sisters.
Graveside Funeral Rites, followed by Military Honors, will be held on Friday afternoon, October 29, 2021 at 3:00 pm at Raleigh Memorial Park. For those unable to attend, the services will be recorded and posted to this memorial page afterwards for viewing.
