Born in Muskegon, Michigan, Louise spent most of her young life in Pittsburgh, PA. Her marriage to a Navy officer took her from coast to coast before finally settling in Houston, TX. Her move to North Carolina eight years ago allowed her to be next-door neighbors with her daughter in Cary, NC.
Even though Louise received her undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, she returned to college to earn her teaching certificate in Special Education, and later a Masters in Educational Diagnostics and Counseling. She worked within the structure of public schools around the Houston area devoting her time, talents, and energies to children who struggled within the educational system. It wasn’t uncommon for Louise to be randomly approached by young adults who would sincerely thank her for always being in their corner.
In addition to being a dedicated educator, Louise was a devoted church member, lending her experience and compassion through Stephen’s Ministry, hospice, and other outreach programs. She had the ability to see the needs in others and help them through their troubles. Her father would tell her she had “a tender heart,” and she used that capacity in everything she did. Though beneficent, Louise was also, as many would say, feisty. At barely 5 feet and 100 pounds, anyone who underestimated her was in for a surprise.
Louise was also a steadfast supporter and contributor to animal rights organizations and environmental conservancies. She had a particular fondness for toy fox terriers and was seldom without at least a couple furry companions.
Louise was preceded in death by her devoted husband Bill Walsh, and is survived by her daughters Karlyn Mitchell (Doug Pearce) and Libbie Kendall (Dean Kendall), grandchildren Jennifer and Torrie Kendall, Trevor Pearce, and great-grandchildren Grayson and Tobias.
A memorial service will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Cary, NC (600 Walnut St., 27511) on Saturday, April 18th at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the SPCA of Wake County, 200 Petfinder Lane, Raleigh, NC 27603.
