Lucie Elam Poston, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025, at the age of 82. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her passing.
Born on October 20, 1942, Lucie graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English. After college she married and built a family with her second husband, Ted C. Miller. Together they raised two children, Katharine (Kitty) and Charles, who were always the center of her heart.
When her children were grown, Lucie enjoyed working in the men’s department at Thalhimers department store located at Crabtree Vally Mall, where she formed many lasting friendships. In retirement she made her home at Topsail Beach, North Carolina, with her third husband, Richard Poston. Topsail was her favorite place on earth, and she found joy and peace in the ocean she loved so deeply.
Lucie was known for her wit, her love of reading mysteries, and her devotion to animals, especially her beloved corgis. At one time she cared for as many as six dogs. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, watching true crime shows, and indulging in her favorite guilty pleasure, the National Enquirer.
Lucie was preceded in death by her husbands, Ted C. Miller and Richard Poston. She is survived by her daughter, Kitty Boddie Miller; her son, Charles Lawson Miller; and her daughter-in-law, Meg Bost Miller.
In accordance with her wishes, Lucie will be cremated, and a private family memorial will be held.
Those wishing to honor her memory may make donations to Saving Grace Animals for Adoption, 13400 Old Creedmoor Road, Wake Forest, NC, an organization she supported wholeheartedly.
Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's St. Raleigh, NC, is serving the family.
