Born in Raleigh, Maribelle is the daughter of Gail Scoggin and Bill Scoggin. She is survived by her parents, her younger sister Margaret Scoggin, her aunt and uncle Jerry and Valinda Coates, her aunt and uncle Dawn and Bruce Scoggin, and her “Mimi” Linda Snelson King. Maribelle had a large circle of cherished close relatives and friends, including “sisters” like Jessica Du, an overseas exchange student who lived with the family. She touched everyone's lives and made them all better. Maribelle also leaves behind her beloved dogs, Perry and Ollie.
Maribelle attended White Memorial pre-school, St. Timothy’s School, Broughton High School, and Saint Mary’s School. Following her graduation from Saint Mary’s, Maribelle continued her education at Westmont College, Liberty University, and Wake Technical College, while working in retail, hospitality, and technology. Maribelle liked to learn, but found her greatest joy in working, travelling, and interacting with others.
Devoted to service, Maribelle was very active in her faith, and not afraid to show it. She spent a significant amount of her time, energy, and resources on mission trips and other activities to benefit Haiti and the Haitian people. The orphaned children of Haiti were her top priority. She loved and supported these children, providing aid that enabled them to attend school, and to enjoy a daily, warm meal. Maribelle loved these children as her own.
Music was especially important to Maribelle. She sang and played guitar, and enjoyed listening to a wide variety of artists, often attending live performances. Maribelle’s musical ear and natural ability helped her lead a youth band at church for several years. The Saint Mary’s School choral program also held a special place in her heart. She enjoyed the music, and really loved the camaraderie. In her senior year, Maribelle travelled with the group on a special trip to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City. Many of her favorite times found her gathered with friends, playing guitar and singing.
A celebration of Maribelle’s life and faith will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at White Memorial Presbyterian Church in Raleigh. Visitation with the family will follow the service at White Memorial.
