

Martha was born in Greensboro, North Carolina to the late Elizabeth H. Waugh and Thomas B. Waugh of Climax, NC. Martha graduated from Greensboro Senior High School (now Grimsley Senior High School) and then attended Greensboro College where she obtained a BA in Elementary Education. After obtaining her degree Martha enjoyed more than 40 years of teaching first and second grade in schools across North Carolina. Her career began at Hunter Elementary School in Greensboro. She also taught in Rocky Mount and Durham with the final 28 years of her career spent at North Ridge Elementary School in Raleigh.
During those successful years Martha was an active Sister in the Alpha Theta Chapter of the Educational Sorority, Alpha Delta Kappa. In 2017 Martha was recognized by her Chapter for 50 years of dedicated service. As long as her health permitted, she was an active member of Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh.
Martha is survived by her husband of 61 years, F. Carlyle Teague of Raleigh, son Benton Y. (Cathy) Teague of Cary, grandsons Bryson Y. Teague and Chase Q. Teague of Cary, brother Robert T. Waugh of Greensboro and sisters-in-law Helen M. Waugh of Franklinville and Patricia M. Waugh of Climax.
She was preceded in death by sister Doris H. Waugh of Greensboro, brothers Benton A. Waugh and James M. Waugh of Greensboro, William H. Waugh of Franklinville, John F. Waugh of Climax, sisters-in-law Gayle L. Waugh of Greensboro (James) and Betsy C. Waugh, Greensboro (Robert).
The family expresses sincere thanks to the staff of HomeWerks Home Care for nearly three years of dedicated personal and professional service in Martha's battle with Parkinson's Disease.
A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020 at the Cane Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery in Snow Camp, North Carolina. (719 W Greensboro Chapel Hill Rd, Snow Camp, NC 27349) Face masks, social distancing and other recommended protocols are requested.
In lieu of flowers, Martha's family requests that everyone take the time to read a story or a book to a child in her memory. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Cane Creek Friends Meeting Cemetery Fund, PO Box 611, Snow Camp, NC 27349.
