Mary Norton Allen

Mary Norton Allen passed away peacefully at her residence in Wake Forest NC on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at the age of 95. Mary was born in Hereford, Texas to James and Edna Norton in 1922. She was married to Sherwood (Ben) Benton Allen for 65 years. They had four children, Patricia Allen DeGrasse, Michael (Mike), Clay (Tony), and James.

As the wife of an Air Force pilot, she enjoyed living in many places in the U.S and abroad. While living in Germany, the family enjoyed traveling in Europe and hosting visiting relatives.

Raising her four children brought her great joy. She enjoyed sewing dresses for herself and her daughter Patricia. When the children were grown, she looked forward to family visits including grandchildren and great grandchildren. One her greatest pleasures were to host dinners at the holidays.

As a young girl she enjoyed playing sports and as an adult lady enjoyed bowling, golf, softball, and playing bridge. While living in Atlanta, she became an avid Braves fan and rarely missed a game on television. After the children were grown, she learned to play golf and she and her husband were members of Fort McPherson Golf Club, in Atlanta. During that time she made many lifelong friends.

Mary is survived by her brother, Ray Norton and wife Carol; daughter, Patricia DeGrasse and husband Robert; son, James Allen and wife Yvonne; daughter-in-law, Mary C. Allen; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ben Allen and sons Mike and Tony Allen.
