Mary Elizabeth Ellis

Mary Elizabeth Ellis, known affectionately as Peggy, passed away on October 15, 2025, in Bel Air, Maryland, at the age of 104. She was born on July 19, 1921, in Covington, Virginia. She was one of nine children born to the late Mr. and Mrs. William H. Long.

Peggy graduated from the Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1945. She lovingly cared for many patients including her dear mother and other family members.

In August, 1950 Peggy married Mr. William (Bill) John Ellis. They were married for 48 years, until Bill’s passing in 1999. They shared a deep passion for birds and wildflowers, spending many hours taking pictures and sharing them with their friends.

Peggy was celebrated for her strong faith and her unwavering devotion to her family and friends, traits that greatly enriched the lives of those around her. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones and remembered for the profound impact she had on their lives.

Having made her home in Raleigh, North Carolina, Peggy spent the last ten years of her life with her niece and nephew living in Bel Air, Maryland. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Details of the memorial service will be announced at a later date regarding a online zoom memorial in honor of Mary.. The family appreciates your prayers and condolences during this difficult time.

She will be laid to rest following a private interment at Goldston United Methodist Church Cemetery; 185 Hillcrest Ave, Goldston, NC 27252.
