Mary Margaret Lyda

Mary was predeceased by her parents, Rose Marie Wilson and Allen B. Wilson. Surviving are her 2 devoted sons Matthew Wilson Lyda and Christopher Aaron Lyda, of Raleigh; sister Jeanne Marie Griffith (Pete) of Burke, VA; brothers Steve Wilson of Chapel Hill and Allen B. Wilson III (Carolyn) of Raleigh; her treasured canines Oz and Loki.

Mary was born at Bethesda Naval Hospital and grew up in Maryland. Her career began at FDA headquarters and continued as a consultant in clinical research. Mary’s expertise was extraordinary and she thrived in that challenging field. Mary traveled the globe, residing in Switzerland for 10 years before settling in Raleigh.

Mary inherited a precious trait from her mother Rose Marie, agape love. The kind of love that puts others ahead of self. She was always ready to help anyone in their time of need. Those stories are a testimony to her lasting legacy.

Mary was surrounded by her countless friends. Those relationships were important to her; especially her connections at Players Retreat. Her final weeks exemplified her active life; “ Annual” Oyster Roast at her home, attending NC State football games, business travel to Boston, and time with her friends at her Ormond Beach home- making even more memories. Mary was excited about her planned return to Ormond Beach for a special Thanksgiving with Chris and Matt.

She loved her downtown Raleigh home, and the decor reflects her personality and world travels. Mary achieved the status of American Airlines Million Miler. She always found a way to combine her career and her passions; the best of both worlds.

Mary was the most wonderful hostess and the most welcome guest- our lives are forever enhanced by all who shared her adventure in life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 11:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Church; 200 Hillsborough St Raleigh NC. The Lyda Family will receive following the service.
