Mary Upchurch

Mary Upchurch, 98, of Raleigh passed away Thursday January 8, 2015 at Oaks at Mayview. She was born September 27, 1916 in Ilmo, Missouri a daughter of the late James Mason Williams and Elva Rose Williams.

Mary was an active member of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh. She graduated from Peace Junior College in 1935 completing a general business course. Anna married her high school sweetheart in 1937, John Wesley Upchurch. She was a founding member of Drewry Hill Garden Club.

She was predeceased by her husband John, and her brother John Thomas Williams and sister Elizabeth Self.

Mary is survived by her children: Jack Upchurch of Raleigh, and Mary Michael Cole and husband Dennis of Archdale, NC, granddaughter Jennifer Baldwin and husband Reece of Anchorage, Alaska, and her great-grandchildren Clare, Ethan, Olivia, Travis, Reagan and her sister Lois Browning, of Castleton, NY.

The family and friends would to thank the staff at Whitaker Glen and a special thanks to Freda and Patrice.

A time of visitation will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home 300 Saint Mary’s St. Raleigh. A Funeral Service will be held 11 am Monday, January 12, 2015 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church 1800 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC 27608 Interment will follow at Montlawn Cemetery.
