Mattie (Mickey) Rouse Johnston

She is survived by her brother, William E. Rouse, Jr. (Elizabeth G.) of Raleigh; her nephew, William E. Rouse III of Winston-Salem; her niece, Elizabeth Rouse Ferguson (Clarence) of Raleigh; her great-nephew, William E. Rouse IV of Winston-Salem; and her great-niece, Isabel G. Ferguson of Raleigh.

She was predeceased by her husband W. Riley Johnston.

She was a graduate of Needham Broughton High School (1949), Peace College (1951) and UNC-CH (1953). Prior to her marriage, Mickey worked for General Electric in Schenectady, NY and, after moving to the Atlanta area, she worked at the Atlanta Constitution. While Riley was living, they enjoyed traveling and attending the seminars of the UNC Humanities Program. Her interests were reading, gardening, her book club, swimming, working with various charities and watching UNC basketball and football games on television. She was a member of Sandy Springs Christian Church in Sandy Springs, GA. She was a long–time resident of Marietta, GA.

Graveside services will be held on October 7, 2015 at 2:00P.M. at Raleigh Memorial Park, conducted by Philip N. Jones, minister of St. Paul’s Christian Church and Thomas L. Law, Minister Emeritus. Visitation will follow at the home of W.E. (Bill) Rouse, Jr., in Raleigh.
