

Mildred “Millie” Carney Holt of Raleigh passed away peacefully in the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. She was born in Raleigh, North Carolina and was raised at the Methodist Home for Children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Lee Holt and her daughter Carolyn Holt Pigott. She retired from USF&G Insurance and worked at Cooper Tools and other jobs in later life. She was a wonderful person and never met a stranger. Her amazing out-going personality endeared her to everyone she met. If you needed a smile she was always prepared to put one on your face with a funny joke or other “Millie” antics. She will be missed by all her orphanage family and many friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Virginia “Jennie” Ferrell, and LeAnne Holt Madjar; grandchildren, Todd Ferrell, Michelle Ryals, Angela Pigott, Jeff Pigott , and Lee Madjar; great-grandchildren, Hannah Ryals, Luke Ryals and Seth Ryals.
A visitation will be held Sunday afternoon, December 9th, from 4-6 pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh.
A funeral service will be held Monday, December 10th, at 11am at Trinity United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Burial will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, DUMC Box 3624, Durham, N.C. 27710, in honor of her daughter, Carolyn Holt Pigott, or a charity of your choice.
