Millie was a native of Granville County, the daughter of the late, Gabe and Jesse Green Woody. She resided in Raleigh for most of her adult life, working for many years with the NC Department of Agriculture's Seed Lab, until her retirement in the early 1980s. Millie also worked for more than 20 years in the admitting office of Rex Hospital. She was a member of Saint John's Baptist Church in Raleigh, and later in life attended New Hope Baptist Church.
She will be remembered as a hard worker, often holding down two jobs at once, but her focus in life was taking care of others, especially her family. The last five years of her life she had the pleasure of living with her grandson, Jeff, and being around her great-grandchildren, Jennifer who cared for her, and Will and Anna Claire.
Millie was preceded in death by her husband, William Alonzo Thomas; and her daughter, Janice Thomas in 1988.
Surviving are her grandson, Jeff Cruden and his wife Taby of Garner; her granddaughter, Janice Griffin and her husband, Bill of Cooperstown, PA; and her four great-grandchildren, Will and Anna Claire Cruden, and Jennifer McVey and husband Chris of Clayton, and Nicholas Griffin, of Cooperstown, PA.
The family will receive friends Saturday, November 12, 2011 from 4pm-6pm at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 Saint Mary's Street, Raleigh. A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 13th at 2pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford, NC.
