

The only child of J.O. Bailey and Loretta Carroll, Nancy was born in Graham, NC on July 2, 1930. She was a graduate of UNC-CH, receiving a BA in education and a Masters Degree in English. She taught in the public high schools of Rockingham and Robeson counties before becoming an English professor at NC State where she taught for 33 years, retiring in 1995. Following retirement, Nancy founded Justice for Animals, Inc. and served as its president.
Nancy is survived by husband of 60 years, Millard R. Rich Jr., of Raleigh and her son James R. Rich (Diane) of Greensboro. Her daughter Cheryle C. Rich predeceased her in 2010. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Caroline and Chelsea Griffin of Raleigh and Sarah and Eric Rich of Greensboro, and half-sister Molly Wells (Walter) of State College, PA.
The family will hold a private service in Raleigh on Sunday, January 8. Visitation for friends of the family will be held Sunday, January 15th from 2-4 at the Wynne Center, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh.
