Pamela Eaves Koziel, age 69, died February 3, 2022 in Durham, NC after a courageous battle with cancer. She was with family and passed peacefully without pain after six days in hospice. While she wasn’t ready to leave, she could no longer continue. Thus began her trip down the ultimate rabbit hole.
Pam is survived by her husband Michael, their daughter Allison Bolla (Joseph), her grandchildren Charles and George, and brother Robert Eaves. Pam was predeceased by her mother Patricia Eaves and father Beecher Eaves.
Pam was born Feb. 13, 1952 and grew up in Royal Oak, MI. She graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in teaching and art and obtained a Master’s degree from Oakland University. She did her student teaching at a USAF base in Lakenheath, England, an experience that made her forever-after an Anglophile. She taught in a number of different school districts (Michigan, California, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Iowa) as she moved with her husband. For many years her primary occupation was mother, a function she thoroughly embraced. Her enjoyment of being a mother was matched only by her role as a grandmother. She never strayed far from her passion for her artwork, eventually procuring her own art studio.
She insisted in looking at the brighter side of life and seeing the good in others (despite her husband’s frequent counsel to the contrary). In addition to her artwork, she enjoyed nature and was adamant about caring for animals and ensuring their kind treatment. She will be remembered as someone who was creative, enthusiastic, and always willing to help others. She was determined to find beauty in everyday life and to share it with those around her. She believed there was magic to be found in the mundane and for the people lucky enough to know her, she was right. She enjoyed traveling and seeing new places and meeting new people. Generous and kind, she tried to find light in dark places or would create it herself. She will be missed by her family and friends, having departed us far too soon.
She requested no service due to covid, though no doubt she would have enjoyed the notion of an Alice in Wonderland-themed celebration of her life.
