

She was born in Amarillo, Texas, on June 7, 1928, the daughter of Colonel Clifford M. and Lois K. Snow. Colonel Snow was a member of the Texas National Guard 36th Division and in late 1940 the family left Amarillo to move to various military assignments. With her mother and brother, she returned to Amarillo in 1943 and graduated from Amarillo High School in 1945. The family moved to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where she met her husband-to-be, Lt. Daniel Webster Hickey III, a recent graduate of United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.
They were married February 14th, 1948 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and she joined her husband in Yokohama, Japan. Many assignments followed including Fort Meade, MD; Colorado Springs, CO, a second tour at Fort Sill, OK, West Point, NY; Fort Bragg, NC; Fort Leavenworth, KS, Army Language School, Monterrey, CA; McDill Air Force Base, Tampa, FL; Fontainebleau, France; and Brunssum, The Netherlands.
After her husband’s retirement, the family lived in Pearisburg, VA where she taught first grade and then became involved in real estate; Yardley, PA where she worked with a touring company, and again in real estate, and then retired in Williamsburg, VA. Mrs. Hickey was very active in many social groups and worked at various times with the Red Cross, Cub and Boy Scouts, United Way, Federation of Women’s Clubs, served as an election judge and as an active member of the Episcopal Church where she served as Sunday School and adult teacher, Alter Guild, Vestry member, including a seven year stint as Rector’s Warden, and choir member.
Her husband, Lt. Col, Daniel W. Hickey III and their first son, Daniel Webster Hickey IV, predeceased Mrs. Hickey. She is survived by two sons and families; Scott F. Hickey and his two daughters, Arianna and Mira all of Superior, CO and Michael L. and Melissa Hickey and their children, Sam, Luke, Amanda and Treva, all of Chapel Hill, NC. She is also survived by one brother, Richard D. Snow of Vancouver, Washington, by a dear friend, Patti Davis and a dear ex-daughter-in-law, Renee Shannon, nieces, nephews and many cousins.
She spent her final six years in Chapel Hill, NC. She was loved by her family, friends and those who helped her through her final days. Her humor and quick wit always lightened the room.
Services will be held at Bruton Parish Church, 201 Duke of Gloucester Street, Williamsburg, VA on Ascension Day, Thursday, May 30th at 11am. Internment will be in the graveyard of Bruton Parish Church. Immediately following the service, the family will be with friends at a reception at the Custis House across the street from the church.
