Dr. Puran Kenneth Budhram passed peacefully on Christmas morning, leaving behind a legacy of dignity, quiet wisdom, and lifelong service. His passing brings deep sorrow to his family and all who knew him, yet it also reflects the way he lived his life—gentle, calm, and purposeful.
Born to David Somra Budhram and Inez Chand Budhram, Dr. Budhram was raised with strong values rooted in discipline, humility, and a profound respect for education and service. These principles guided him throughout his life and became the foundation upon which he built his family and career.
He shared 57 years of devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Lucille. Their union was marked by loyalty, patience, and enduring love—a quiet but powerful partnership that anchored their family through every season of life.
As a father, Dr. Budhram led by example. He was thoughtful, principled, and kind, teaching integrity, careful reflection, and respect for others not through forceful words, but through steady presence and action. His guidance left a lasting impression on his family.
He was a proud and loving grandfather to Uma and Priya, who brought him immense joy. He delighted in their achievements, encouraged their growth, and took great pride in imagining and supporting their futures, always believing in their boundless potential.
Dr. Budhram lived a rich and well-rounded life. In his younger years, he was an accomplished wicket-keeper batsman, representing his village club with pride. He later embraced bodybuilding with the same discipline and commitment that defined his character. He also possessed a deep love for music and was a gifted playback singer, especially admired for his renditions of Mohammed Rafi songs, which brought joy to family and friends and revealed his artistic spirit.
He was a devoted brother to Jean Persaud (Nurse Jean), Ramkarran Budhram (Cecil), Lakeram Budhram (Vijay), Jairam Budhram (Daniel), Ramchand Budhram (Ivan), and Vickram Budhram (Solomon). Family bonds were deeply important to him, and he nurtured them with loyalty, care, and respect.
Education was Dr. Budhram’s lifelong calling. A passionate believer in learning, he pursued academic excellence with determination and vision. He taught at Covent Garden Secondary School and Christ Church Secondary School, later serving as a Lecturer at the Cyril Potter College of Education. His educational work continued in the United States at several institutions. He was also the author of Readiness for Globalization in the Post-Primary Pre-Collegiate Public System in Guyana, a testament to his scholarship and commitment to the future of education.
Those who knew Dr. Budhram will remember his quiet wisdom. He did not seek attention or praise. He listened deeply, spoke thoughtfully, and carried a presence that brought calm, clarity, and reassurance.
Dr. Budhram’s legacy lives on in his family, in the countless students he taught across countries, and in the many lives he touched through his compassion, humility, and example.
He will be remembered with love, gratitude, and profound respect. May his memory continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know him. May he rest in peace.
