

Randi Mathisen Walker Comer of Raleigh, NC, died in Raleigh on September 26, 2010, at 101 years of age. She was born April 14, 1909, in Brooklyn, NY, to Aksel Einar and Hilda Marie Johnson Mathisen. In 1910, her parents returned to Oslo, Norway, where the family lived until 1915, when they reimmigrated to the United States and located in Portsmouth, VA, and later in Norfolk, VA, where she attended school. In 1928, she was married to Robert Glenn Walker, who preceded her in death in 1952. They had lived in Richmond, VA, and moved to Raleigh in 1932, where she has resided for 78 years.
After her husband died, she worked at the Wake County Register of Deeds office for 10 years. In 1961, she was married to J. Benjamin Comer. She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Raleigh until her health caused her to move into an assisted living facility, and later Mayview Nursing Home. She was a member of Edith Chapter #160, Order of the Eastern Star, Cary; North State White Shrine; and Sons of Norway.
Randi was a beloved lady who was admired by all who knew her. She was an active pianist for various entities and did much needlework through the years. She is survived by her daughter, LTC Hilda L. Walker (Ret.) of Tacoma, WA, and her son, the Rev. Dr. Robert G. Walker, Jr., a retired Lutheran pastor, of Burlington, NC, and his family, wife Cecelia and daughter Kathryn W. Chatfield of Greensboro, NC, and her family, husband Donald, son David and daughter Lindsey; step-daughter Ethel Johnson of West Hills, CA, and her family, husband Clarence and son Bran and daughter Gail and their families; step-son Bruce Comer of Savannah, GA, and his daughter Elizabeth; nieces Anne C. Sands of Atlanta, GA, and her family, Cheryl W. Brumfield of Virginia Beach, VA, and her family; and nephew Dr. William J. Walker of Lovettesville, VA, and his family. Altogether, Mrs. Comer had eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Family was very important to her, and she will be missed by all of them.
The family will receive visitors at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home on 300 St. Mary’s Street from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Clark Avenue on Thursday, September 30, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh. The Rev. Dr. Royall A. Yount, Jr., will preside.
