

Surviving are his beloved wife of 76 years, Cleta Bennett White; brother, Zan C. White and wife Sarah, of Elkins, W.Va; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Pauline W. Skidmore, Sally, Marie and Nellie White, and by his brothers, Hobart S. White, Paul Y. White and Gordon B. White, all of W. Va.
Dr. White received his B.S. Degree from Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, W.Va.; and M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees from West Virginia University, Morgantown, W.Va.
On November 27, 1936, he married the love of his life Cleta Bennett. Raymond and Cleta shared a love for their families for 76 years. Even though their personal sacrifice was required, they always saw that the needs, well-being and the health of both families were secure. Several family members stayed in their home while they sought higher education in local colleges. They also contributed over the years to various scholarships; because education was very important to them.
Dr. White joined the faculty at NC State University in 1940, as Professor in Chemistry, where he remained until his retirement. He enjoyed teaching and received Outstanding Teaching Awards. He authored Laboratory Manuals in Colloid and General Chemistry. He also worked in the field of research with the late Dr. Ivan Jones, Department of Food Science at NC State University.
He was a member of Chi Beta Phi Scientific Fraternity, The Society of Sigma Xi, The American Chemical Society and other Honorary Societies in Chemistry and Physics. He was an active member of Fairmont United Methodist Church and Wesley Foundation for many years.
A visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 29, at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh. A memorial service to celebrate his life will follow in the Auditorium of Springmoor Retirement Community, Sunday at 2:00 pm, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh. A graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, July 30, at Raleigh Memorial Park.
