

Rita was born Mary Rita Markert in Corning, New York on August 25, 1922 to John Harold and Frances Webster Markert. In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Schiller in April 2002; her brother, John Webster Markert; her sister, Anne Markert World; and her son-in-law, Tony L. Sharp.
Rita and Paul moved to Raleigh in 1953 when Paul was relocated there with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Passing on opportunities to relocate elsewhere, Rita and Paul chose to remain in Raleigh to raise their five children and participate as active members of their community. Rita relocated to Goldsboro after Paul’s death.
Rita was retired from the Raleigh/Wake County Public School System.
Rita is survived by her five children: Suzanne Schiller Barvir (Edward J.) of Sykesville, MD; Martha Schiller Saylors (Michael C.) of Goldsboro, NC; Mary Schiller Sharp of Raleigh, NC; Paul Mark Schiller (Mary Anne) of Chocowinity, NC; and David Scott Schiller of Wake Forest, NC. She is also survived by her very-much loved nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a very special family member, Dr. Tina Y. Hoots.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Avenue, Raleigh, NC.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 200 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC. A private entombment will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534; the George A. Kahdy Scholarship Endowment c/o the N.C. Community Foundation, 4601 Six Forks Road, Suite 524, Raleigh, NC 27609; the American Diabetes Association; the Lupus Foundation of America; or the charity of one’s choice.
