Robert Burton Carroll, 77, of Raleigh, died on January 1, 2020. Bob was born in Yonkers, NY, and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. He attended the Universal Art Academy in Pittsburgh, achieving his degree in Commercial Art. He also attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City. Bob began his career in Commercial Art designing gift wrap. He later worked in Marketing and Communications for Northern Telecom. He finished his career working in Staff Development for the State of North Carolina at Murdoch Center in Butner from 1990-2009.
Bob loved art and was always drawing and sketching something new. In the 60’s, he gained the nickname “Kustom Bob” from his artistic pin-striping of cars. Aside from art, Bob loved spending time with family and friends, fishing and boating, and working on classic cars. He was a very creative person who was always fun to be around. Bob was a family man. He loved his family dearly and always let them know how much he appreciated and “loved” them. His family and the many friends he made over the years will greatly miss him.
Bob is survived by his wife, Andrea Carroll; son, Robert Burton Carroll, Jr. and wife, Liz; daughter, Emily Carroll Rinker and husband, Raymond; grandchildren, Robert “Burton” Carroll III, Harris Arden Carroll, Sarah “Drew” Carroll, and Charlotte Ruth Rinker; and his sister, Suzanne Arnett and husband, David. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Sterling Carroll and Suzanne Friedel.
A short service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 1:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Homel Chapel, 7209 Glenwood Ave. in Raleigh, followed by a time of visitation and reception from 1:30-3:30pm, also at Mitchell Funeral Home.
