

Robert Sharpe Cochrane, Jr., 82, of Raleigh, North Carolina, suddenly passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015. He was the only son of the late Robert Sharpe Cochrane and Mary Crawford Hicklin. He was preceded in death by his older sister, Mary Lucille Cochrane Ledbetter.
He is survived by his three children, Michael Andrew Cochrane [Elizabeth], Anne Cochrane Pace [Farrar] and Susan Cochrane Parrish; grandchildren, Joseph Farrar Pace III, Anna Elizabeth Cochrane, David Williams Parrish III, Georgeanne Carter Pace, Andrew Michael Cochrane, Carter Rynne Parrish, Belle Sinclair Pace, Allison Marie Cochrane and Alexander Thomas Cochrane. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Polly Carter Cochrane; his sister, Agnes Cochrane Summerlin; many nieces and nephews; classmates from Laurinburg High School and his friends at Capital Towers.
He was born in Laurel Hill, North Carolina on November 8, 1932 and graduated from Laurinburg High School in 1951. He attended Presbyterian Junior College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He entered the Officers Training School and served as a proud Marine during the Korean conflict.
He worked in the insurance and advertising industry for over 50 years. He received many awards and accolades for his salesmanship. He was a Thirty Second degree Mason. He had a competitive spirit and remained an avid sports fan his whole life, with a special fondness for his Carolina Tarheels. He was always young at heart and enjoyed life to the fullest. He spread a lot of joy to many people.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 pm Thursday, April 16 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 300 St. Mary’s Street, Raleigh. A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 17 at 11:00 am at Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
