Bob was born near Sweet Valley Pennsylvania in 1933. He was the second of three sons born to the late Albert and Mae Hontz.
Bob moved to North Carolina in 1957 to work as a design draftsman with Westinghouse Electric Corp. Bob married Sandra Palmer a Raleigh native in 1962. They were married for 42 years until she passed away in 2004. Bob both loved and respected her. He was happy to have worked at Westinghouse for 39 years, retiring in 1996. Growing up, he loved playing sandlot baseball, and fishing. After moving to Raleigh he enjoyed playing golf, tennis and softball. More recently, he enjoyed playing bridge with his friends at Springmoor. Bob was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, watching his children grow and start families and careers of their own, made him very proud.
Bob is survived by his two children Julia (Hontz) St Louis and Jennifer Hontz; his son-in-laws, David St Louis and Jeff Schroeter; and his four grandchildren; Madeline & Michael St Louis, and Kristen & Justin Schroeter; and his brother, Clifford.
In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren and Ronald (half-brother).
Our family would like to thank his many caregivers at Springmoor and the Stewart Health Center. Your kindness meant the world to our Dad and to us as his health declined the past few months.
A Celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 at 11:00am at Springmoor Life Care Retirement Community, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, 27615. Officiating will be Chaplain Juliana Lindberg. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice in Bob’s name.
