A native of Salisbury, NC, Mrs. Cozart attended Greensboro College (now UNC-G) and was a graduate of Catawba College. She moved to Raleigh in the mid-1950s and worked for the Wake County Public Schools system in their school lunch program. She subsequently worked for Carolina Power and Light (now Progress Energy), instructing rural customers in the use of their newfangled electric appliances. It was on such a trip that she met a handsome young gentleman farmer named Dave Cozart. The two were married in 1957 and remained together until his untimely death in 1962.
Mrs. Cozart was an active member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Carolina Country Club and several gardening, book, and investment clubs. She loved travel, cooking, and spending time at Atlantic Beach. Her greatest joy, however, was her family, especially her 6 grandchildren. Her happiest hours were the ones she spent with them.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Cozart was predeceased by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Wallace Armstrong, two brothers and a sister. She leaves a daughter, Elizabeth Lee Cozart, her son David Lester Cozart III and his wife Valerie, and her son William Charles Cozart and his wife Sarah. She also leaves six grandchildren, William Charles Cozart III, Harrison Dorton Cozart, David Banks Cozart, Lee Armstrong Cozart, Eliza Robeson Cozart, and Charles Howard Cozart.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening , January 4, 2012, from 6-8pm in Kerr Hall at Edenton Street United Methodist Church, 228 West Edenton Street. Raleigh, NC.
