

Roy Fred Noble, Jr. was born in Raleigh on March 14, 1935 to Roy Fred Noble and Mamie Cutler Noble. He grew up in Raleigh, attended Needham Broughton High School, and Graduated from High Point College in High Point, NC with a bachelor’s degree in History. Fred carried on his father’s business, Noble Dental Laboratory; taught Dental Technology with Durham Technical College, both on campus and at the Women’s Prison in Raleigh. He was an avid hunter and sportsman; he loved the outdoors and wildlife conservation. He volunteered his time to teach hunter safety with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Fred was a wonderful father and had a quick, dry wit. He cared for his family; taught his sons many skills, including a love of the outdoors; and supported them in their paths to adulthood.
Fred is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Anne Woods Noble whom he adored and cared for their entire married life. He was her main caregiver the last years of her life as she suffered from, and finally succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease in October of this year. He is survived by his brother Bob Noble; two sons, Roy Fred Noble III, his wife Cynthia Lankford Noble; Robert Gregory Noble and his fiancée, Jennifer Jane Neumann. He leaves behind three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth Theodore, Megan Winfield Noble, Royce Cameron Noble; and two great grandsons, Riley Noble and Boston Theodore.
Special thanks to the employees of Rex Hospital who provided outstanding medical care to Fred in his last days, and who provided emotional support for both Fred and his family during a most difficult time; also many thanks to Transitions Healthcare, who always provide exceptional comfort and support.
The family will receive from 11-1 pm Thursday January 5, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home 300 Saint Mary's St, Raleigh where a funeral service will begin at 1 pm.
